WE ARE USA’S EXCLUSIVE VENDOR FOR EXOTICA PLANTS!
We LOVE importing the latest hybrids and species cultivars from the world’s greatest Nepenthes Nursery, Exotica Plants (EP) in Australia! For those of you who aren’t familiar, EP is the world leader in Nepenthes hybridization. They create the most desired hybrids in cultivation and their quality is unbeatable! EP selectively breeds for size, color, and vigor. Their dramatic offspring are the most sought after in the industry and we are very proud to be your exclusive supplier!
Our relationship is 10+ years strong and we have vast knowledge of their stock. We don’t mislabel like many of our competitors and we are sure of the plants you are receiving. We only do these imports twice a year and highly encourage you place an order if you love tropical pitcher plants! It’s an amazing opportunity to grab something unique for your Nepenthes collection!
The scheduled catalog updates will always be announced via social media @RedleafExotics and our Newsletter.
HOW DO I JOIN THE IMPORT?
The import happens in two phases. First, Exotica will send us a distributor list and we will post the available plants on our site under a tab labeled EP PRE-ORDER. Once we open our catalog, our customers will add plants to their cart and checkout as usual. It’s that easy.
The second phase happens a week or two later. This is when Exotica opens their main catalog with all the plants they couldn’t divide amongst their vendors. These plants are usually rare rooted cuttings and the large specimen plants. Purchasing and checkout is the same as above.
We send our customers the latest info and keep you informed on all important dates:)
HOW LONG CAN I HOLD PLANTS IN MY CART FOR?
We have a secure shopping cart feature on our website. Our customers can add plants to their cart and they will be held there for 15 minutes. We know this isn’t a lot of time, but if you decide to remove plants from your order they will remain out of stock for the additional time frame. We get hundreds of customers visiting our website during these imports so we must make sure plants are restocked quickly. The 15 minutes should be more than enough time to comb through and get something that really catches your eye…there will be a lot! These imports are intense! Some plants are in VERY limited quantities and sell out in minutes, so be quick! We suggest having a cup of coffee and ready 5 minutes prior to our catalog opening:)
HOW LARGE ARE THE PLANTS AND HOW ARE THEY PRICED?
Small plants and new releases are usually 3-5+ inches in diameter and can range from $30-$100, but can be more depending on the rarity and specific hybrid. All of these plants are seed grown and very vigorous with pitchers. We usually have an image of the parents used in the hybrid to give you an idea of what to expect.
Large plants and rooted cuttings
These plants are anywhere from 6-24+ inches in diameter and can range from $40-$400+, depending on traits and rarity. Rooted cuttings are well established and can smaller with a few new leaves to longer vines. Most customers can’t believe how big these can be:)
Specimens are large size plants and you get the exact plant as seen in the images we provide. These will be under their own tab labeled SPECIMENS. They are priced the same as the large plants. Those who are serious collectors usually go to the specimens tab first.
How are the plants priced?
Size, rarity and features. Some of these plants are cuttings from Exotica’s prime breeding stock and in extremely limited quantities. Sometimes they only have 1 or 2 cuttings that won’t be available for years down the line.
On top of the base charge we pay for the plants, we also handle import fees and freight charges. These fees are incorporated into the pricing.
We promise everything is labeled fairly and you won’t be disappointed.
HOW MUCH ARE THE SHIPPING FEES?
Typically, we charge a base shipping fee of $12.99. For larger orders that exceed the base charge, we will send you an invoice for the additional shipping fees.
WHAT ARE MY SHIPPING OPTIONS?
This is our most popular shipping option. This method takes 2-3 business days and is insured up to $50. As this service is not guaranteed by USPS, we are not responsible for the package once it leaves our hands. We highly suggest additional insurance for larger orders over $100. Send us an email request titled ‘INSURANCE’ and we will invoice you for the additional cost. This method is usually fine during our spring (Feb/March) import, but risky in fall (Sep/Nov), especially around the holidays.
This method is highly recommended when your importing a bunch of rare plants from over seas. This option takes 1-2 days to arrive. This service is guaranteed by USPS and comes with $100 insurance. It’s more pricey, but worth the extra security. Additional insurance can be added, although we’ve never had an issue with this option.
WHEN CAN I EXPECT MY ORDER?
Exotica usually ships out a week or two after we place our order. We kindly ask for your patience as Geoff and Andrea carefully pack and ship hundreds of orders by themselves.
We will keep our customers up to date with the progress. Once they ship out, it can take around a week to arrive, depending on customs. Once we receive the import, we will immediately pack and ship the plants. Tracking numbers will be added to all orders.
WHAT DO I DO ONCE I RECEIVE MY ORDER?
Once the plants arrive, unpack them and immediately pot them up. We like to use a 50/50 mixture of long fiber sphagnum and perlite. Give them a thorough watering with purified or distilled water and keep the humidity very high. At this time, we suggest keeping them in lower light levels for a few weeks until you notice a growth response. It’s common for the plants to lose their pitchers, but we’ve had some keep all of them when moved in to ideal conditions, like a greenhouse. If you have any concerns, please reach out to us!
Exotica’s plants really are the jewels of the Nepenthes world and we look forward to getting you addicted! See you during our next import!
We keep our customers updated with the latest information available to us.
Thanks Nepenthes Lovers,
